When I was little, I refused to wear pink. Not because I have anything against pink but because I didn’t want to be “only a girl”.
All my playmates were boys and for some reason they all felt they were better than me because I was “only a girl”. So I made it my mission to run the fastest, jump the highest and punch the hardest to prove I was just as good as any boy.
Of course, once we all hit puberty, that didn’t work anymore because suddenly they were all bigger and stronger than me. But that desire to show everyone that I was more than “only a girl” didn’t go away so I started doing it with my brains instead.
When I designed the Dragon shoes, I wanted them to express that part of my little girl self who refused to wear pink. The part of me that never quite went away when I grew up.
The part that will stand up for me in a fight.
The part that won’t take crap from anyone.
The part that says, “I can do it myself!”
But being tough doesn’t mean you can’t also be pretty!
For me, the dragon shoe is the ultimate expression of feminine beauty. It’s gorgeous, primeval, alluring and a little bit dangerous. It says, “Don’t mess with this girl today!”
And it seems to work. Almost every time I wear dragons – especially when I wear the pink ones for some reason – I have the following experience…
I step into a lift. The guy in the lift looks me up and down, then steps back carefully and says something like, “I’m not going to make you mad in those shoes!”
There’s something cool about wearing pink shoes that frighten men in suits!
The great thing about the Dragon shoes is they defy categorisation – which makes them incredibly versatile to style. I wear these with a plain black business suit during the day, then dress it up at night with black pants and a matchy chunky statement necklace.
They also look great with skinny jeans and a casual top or a cocktail dress.
No matter what you wear them with, they’re fierce and sexy and nobody is going to mess with you! And the best thing about them is because they have a hidden platform, they’re really comfortable to wear.
Dragon now comes in six colour variations. Which one is your favourite?
